Well, that just about wraps up Issue 6, which means that we’ve been working on Loco Nunca for an entire year now. Honestly, it’s pretty amazing that we’ve made it this far, what with all the substance abuse, staff changes, heartbreaks, hangovers, and bouts of dementia that we were up against. But we fought through it, and like they say about marriages, the first year is the hardest one. So now that we’re in for the long haul, allow us to get a little reflective, and yes, self-congratulatory, as we glance back on our humble beginnings and take stock of where a year of Loco Nunca has left us.

What a year, huh? Boy, did it go by fast. I was sort of a nerd when I started out here, but a lot has changed since then. I got my first wedgie, tasted my first MD 20/20, I even kissed a girl! I can’t wait to see what next year brings. See you at the library! That’s where I bathe now.

Oh, what a year it’s been! Thanks to all my trusty cohorts for doing most of the work while I just sat around getting mustachioed. We never would have made it this far without the little people. Oh the children, those who welcome freshness to our old souls. I really feel like we’re a family now! Also, I really enjoy trees. And gummi worms. Umm, what was I talking about? And, uh, who am I? Anyway, roll with the punches friends!

What a long strange trip it’s been. Writing for Loco Nunca this past year has been a dream come true. The staff and the readers are great. I LOVE hearing about how much people love my comics. That makes my day. Getting the video production started has had its ups and downs, but whenever dark days fall, my Loco Nunca family is there with open arms. I only hope that next year is even better!

Before I jumped on the Loco Nunca bandwagon, my life was really boring. I basically sat around with a thumb in my vag, waiting for something cool to happen. Then my life got flip-turned upside down, and I was introduced to the wonderful world of 40s, jorts, and internet publications. I’m now sitting pretty with half a year of experience under my belt and a lifetime of future humiliation ahead of me because I can’t seem to stop talking about my vagina on the internet.

I moved back to Austin last summer, and no sooner had I unpacked before Travis kidnapped me and forced me to design his gay porn magazine. Things were never the same. A year later, and I’m now an aficionado of mannequin porn. I dress up in goofy outfits and hide in people’s bathtubs. I spend long hours buried in html codes aligning pictures of Brad Pitt’s penis and photoshoping Sarah Palin into Apocalypse Now film stills. This is my life now. I am Loco Nunca’s love slave, and intense pain and suffering never felt so good. It’s been quite a year, kiddos. Thanks for all the memories.

When I founded Loco Nunca, all I was trying to do was create a forum to celebrate how awesome I am. But we’ve become something much better than that, and that’s due to all of the fantastic writers that we’ve had with us. Those guys and dolls, they’ve been really great. They never complain, they always make their deadlines, and they are all consummate professionals. I remember the first day that these pups walked through my office door, and it’s amazing to see how much they’ve grown since then. I’d like to think that I’ve had some hand in that growth, but my precious darlings have become better writers, and people, all on their own. It’s been a terrific time working with them, and I know that they all love me dearly and appreciate my demanding nature. As our hero Pete the Diner Owner once said, “Peoples is peoples.” My Loco Nunca friends are some of the best peoples in the world, and I know that they would never betray all the sacrifices I’ve made for them over this past year.
